A comprehensive mapping of the global e-waste cycle, visualizing the flow, impact, and relationships between producers and dump sites to highlight the growing environmental crisis

This research project undertook the comprehensive task of mapping the global e-waste cycle, analyzing data from the top e-waste producers and dump sites worldwide. With global e-waste expected to reach 74 million metric tons by 2030, the project aimed to visualize the intricate web of relationships and the flow of e-waste between nations.

By tracing how electronic waste travels across the planet—from high-production countries like the United States and China to dumping sites in regions such as West Africa and Southeast Asia—the research provides a critical view of the environmental and socio-economic impact of this escalating crisis. The project highlights not only the environmental degradation caused by improper e-waste disposal but also the underlying global trade dynamics and regulatory loopholes that allow this waste to flow across borders.

The resulting visualizations serve as a tool for policymakers, researchers, and environmental activists, offering a clear perspective on the urgency of addressing the growing e-waste crisis and fostering international cooperation for sustainable solutions.
